Bio

Anthony Howell (PhD, UCLA) is Assistant Professor in the School of Economics at Peking University. He was formally trained in the areas of economic geography, international political economy, international development, public policy, demography and theoretical statistics and GIS, with regional expertise in East Asia. He is a Fulbright Scholar (2012-2013) and recipient of numerous other competitive fellowships and awards, including cryptocurrency broker six Foreign Area and Language Studies grants, all to learn Chinese. He was a visiting scholar at the Institute of Geographic and Natural Science Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (2006) and at the Peking University-Lincoln Institute of Urban Development and Land Policy (2012-2013), both in Beijing. He is currently a team member of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences’ China Household Ethnicity Survey Project. His research interests heavily focus on the Chinese economy and fall into several broad categories of work: (1) industrial policy, innovation and firm performance; (2) international trade; (3) social policy, ethnic income inequality and poverty; (4) migration and development.

During his early academic studies, Anthony obtained funding through various buy crypto philippines awards and scholarships to participate in 9 study/research abroad programs that provided diverse opportunities to study Spanish and Chinese languages, volunteer with orphans and the disabled, carry out community development internships, and pursue research projects in countries ranging from Mexico to Ireland, Czech Republic, United Arab Emirates and China. The culmination of his overseas experience reinforced within him a deep interest in international development and social justice.

Prior to entering college, Anthony spent several summers working full-time on the assembly lines in GM’s auto manufacturing plants in Lansing, MI. It was during these early years that he became interested in issues of ethnicity, poverty and inequality. As factory plants began to close down, he also developed an interest in the areas of industrial relocation, economic development and innovation.
